Truth Teller #33 Jerome Powell, chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank. The Trump Dept. of Justice announced it was investigating the head of the Federal Reserve for lying to Congress about the over-budget ongoing renovation of Federal Reserve buildings. Unlike other prominent political figures, heads of tech companies, senior partners in prestigious law firms and university presidents, Powell did not surrender in advance to the flimsy allegations, instead he calmly denied them and called the investigation what it is, an attempt by the Whitehouse to retaliate against the Fed for refusing to lower interest rates.
The Chair of the Fed was only stating an obvious, if of no particular importance to the great unwashed who follow an decidedly Amerikan Führer. Sorry, but watching the crumbling of the American Republic from Europe has been one of the saddest occasions of my life.
ReplyDeleteJakob, thanks for your comment. The significance of what the Fed chair said is not in what he said, but the fact that he said it. When so many U.S. leaders of industry, wealthy corporations, museums, universities, law firms etc are kowtowing to the Cheetoh Benito, here is one prominent head of a major institution who dissents from the cowardly chorus. This deserves all the support we can muster.
