Taking Alaska Backward

  1. It's what runs through my mind whenever I hear someone wanting their country "back."

  2. The modern world is scary. I think we all get that. There are at least two significant problems with trying to go back to the solutions of an idealized past. First, we have a different set of problems today than the ones faced by the founders. Second, the past some yearn for isn't a place most of us would like to return to. Slavery, anyone? The founders accommodated it. Rights of women? Say What? And I believe one of the reasons we have sought to provide basic minimums to the worst-off (no doubt someone will correct me here if I'm wrong) is that when WWII started, many recruits were too ill-nourished etc. to fight

  3. This country that everyone wants "back" belongs to the indigenous people American Indians, Inuits, Athabaskans, Aleuts, Haidas, Tlinkits and so on.

  4. Peter,
I think most "going back", or wanting to "take the country back" of these backward looking dipsticks i believe has to do with the longing of going back to times when everyone is young, preschool when the world is safe with mom and dad around, or even younger when they are nursing on mom's tits. These BLDs are looking back to a time when they can do what they want in those years.

  6. Whoops the post immediately above was a response to your first comment. As for your second comment, I'd add that one of the things that they are missing is the good 'ol days when Mr. Charlie was in charge and whites were a comfortable majority. Something that those who want the country back find impossible to accept is that a man of Obama's mixed heritage represents the future of the country. Hence the desperation to prove he is not a citizen.
